People are talking about King Arthur! From New Orleans City Business (March 5, 2001) Metro - Errol Laborde page 21, re: krewes that moved to New Orleans "I wasn’t expecting much from Shangri-La and King Arthur, the krewes that moved from the St. Bernard
Parish and the West Bank respectively, to the hallowed ground of the
St. Charles Avenue parade route. Shangri-La equaled my expectation,
having far too many of those dreary floats with maids, past maids, past
queens and
on and on. Maybe the move to Uptown New Orleans will spark new energy
and resources in this group. I was,
however stunned by King Arthur.
Some floats were unusual and creative, fitting well into the Wizard of
Oz theme."Where Y’AT Magazine March 2001 Issue page 10 From (Mardi Gras 2001 Parade Wrap Up) King Arthur Awarded 5 Plumes in Addition to the Following: ![]() Best Floats Daytime Rex, Mid City, King Arthur Best New Parade King Arthur, Muses Friendlist Riders Orpheus, King Arthur, Endymion, Muses, Bacchus, Iris Most Impressive Costumes Endymion, Mid-City, King Arthur Most Organized Muses, King Arthur, Shangri-La, Iris Most Diverse Krewe King Arthur, Muses Gambit Magazine Rating the Revelry March 6, 2001 Uptown happily welcomed this former West Bank krewe that celebrated with a fitting "Toto, I Have A Feeling We’re Not on the West Bank Anymore" theme. Except for the green-faced riders on the Wicked Witch float, King Arthur and Merlin needs to kick the excitement level up a notch. Still, the float designs and costumes were well done and
perfectly matched the catchy theme. A little more electricity and throw
quality, and
this krewe won’t want to go back to Kansas.
It
is also a
lifelong dream, come true for
the captain of the Krewe as he rolls in uptown New Orleans for the
first time during the 21 plus years of history of his krewe.
